Our Planet Is Blue campaign of OceanCare
Strategic Approach
The campaign was based on an integrated 360° multi-channel strategy spanning an entire year, combining digital marketing, traditional PR, social media, influencer engagement, strategic partnerships, and mobilization to build maximum public pressure on decision-makers ahead of the UN Ocean Conference.
Centered around the slogan “Because Our Planet Is Blue,” the campaign features powerful imagery and striking video content that presents the state of our oceans without sugarcoating the reality: It deliberately challenges often-idealized perceptions and generates much-needed attention for ocean conservation – even in our part of the world. Issues such as shipping, plastic pollution, and oil and gas extraction are highlighted as constant threats to marine life. Despite the images of destruction and pollution, the campaign conveys that it is not yet too late to save the oceans and their inhabitants.
Main Goal
To generate international public pressure on governments worldwide to commit to measurable goals and to advance and agree on effective measures to protect marine life at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice in June 2025.
Highlight
The presentation of 114,559 signatures to Peter Thomson, UN Special Envoy for the Ocean, on World Oceans Day 2025 in Nice, ahead of the UN Ocean Conference.
Campaign Demands
The Because Our Planet Is Blue campaign called for 6 specific measures (6-Point Action Plan):

- Mandatory reduction of shipping speeds
- A ban on destructive fishing practices such as (bottom) trawling
- Mandatory global regulations against plastic pollution (regulations covering the entire life cycle)
